I think that maybe you should hedge against red a bit more. Seems like maybe it is starting to become more of the meta again. So maybe cut something for a breath weapon main and keep the other two in the side board so you can go up to 3 in total. Also maybe cut one of the artifact hate cards for one cast into the fire because it does double duty against affinity and mono-red.

I like a 1 of Smash to Dust in the main as a hedge vs. mono red and affinity. It can come in handy in other matchups as well. Thraben Charm seems like it would be better if you played more... Thraben (Inspector). Gorilla Shaman coming in v mono red has got to be wrong, but idk. Thanks for the great content!

What about Raffine’s informant in the faithless looting slot, and/or inspiring overseer slot? Kinda fills all the roles, discards strands, is a white creature for strands, can loot away lands late, while also being some kinda target for a stray ephemerate, though not ideal there for sure

Didn’t matter much in the end, but I think that in the first game, when the opponent had all those big creatures and you casted strands in his upkeep, the best play would have been to cast in the attack phase, so that you could remove 1-2 of his creatures. The risk was for him to top deck a counterspell, but I still think holding the cast would be the best play.

IDK, I feel like Faithless Looting is something you are either all in on and then play less lands (esp since you are a Wildfire deck) or cut it entirely. As a one-of you will never have it when you really need it.

Hi I've been playing a list very similar to yours since the rat was out. My results are decent, but I can't really win a single match against combo decks. What's your plan vs Altar Tron or Walls/Goblin Combo? In most of the cases I play elementalist+ephemerate and d2d for Tron combo pieces, same with pyroblast for Walls, and concede button vs Goblin combo. Also I used to struggle against aggro decks sometimes, so I added 2x Unexpected Fangs specifically for flyers/paladin/cleric(so that it doesn't die to bolt) and magically started winning vs rakdos madness and mono-red much more consistenly.

I built Mardu Synth last month as my first pauper deck. It was fine but not exceptional, and I'm excited to try this deck next month!

terminate might be the cut over the cast down, and i noticed you have only 3 black white bridges and 4 red black... seems like that might be reversed. probably want the extra white source vs the extra red since the deck is far more white. cast down over terminate also helps cut the reliance on red for the 4th b/w bridge, esp important post board with dust to dust. I play a lot of three color+ decks and those little optimizations will win games. double color pipped cards in 3 color decks will always get stuck in hand some amount of the time, even single pipped will, best to just streamline it as much as possible, if there is not a compelling reason for the 2 pip over the single pip card. Loved the overlay :) simple thing but makes it much easier to be doing a couple things while watching and still keep up, rather than trying to go back and find the record hidden somewhere in the video. :)

I'm really impressed with your patience/discipline. Whenever I play this style of deck I end up casting strands at the wrong time, or spending all of my mana commiting to the board instead of holding interaction up.

That Mono-White Heroic player is gonna find some way to include Flaring Pain after that game :)

Think you could fit a Skoa in here? Not sure exactly what it's solving, but cool way to close out the game quickly with cast + ephemerate being 12 damage that doesn't use the combat step (or sniping 3 creatures for 4 ea). Can looting + dinner to bring it out early too.

Ephemerate + Familiar is so brutal. For the low price of BW, your opponent loses three cards.

Would Stonehorn Dignitary work in this deck? As a sideboard piece maybe against aggro decks or is Strands just better?

What do you think of something like blood fountain or voldaren epicure over looting? Both offer smaller looting effects, one gives bringing creatures back but it's harder to cast early the other is a fine blink target in an emergency and a early blocker

Really nice deck, I think you should for sure include some Siege Smash as you're a graveyard deck and that's a really good answer to relic and nihil spellbomb which everyone is running nowadays

match 1 game 1, did you consider playing the wildfire instead of the creature to ramp you and draw because he had so many hawks to discard so the value on that card was pretty bad?

question for you, why are cards like dog umbra not playable? just creatures like murmuring mystic with other triggers are too common and need a for sure answer to it? that card seems like the best version i have seen of a pacifism type effect. Also thought of an interesting card for the faithless looting slot... Rowan's grim search. if you don't want to sacrifice anything you don't have too, and its instant, and digs pretty deep if you really need something specific... going 6 cards deep for 3 mana is kinda big though, chump with an inspector, grim it away, 6 looks at a removal for the creature beating you down... that seems pretty good, also this is a pseudo combo deck with the rat lock now, so finding the missing piece might win a lot of games.

Love the deck and glad to see you're back at it! I've been trying to jam refurbished familiar in my mardu synth deck and it's been a struggle. This is a way better home for it and I'll definitely be putting this together!
